Throughout all the cultures in the Bible marriage has played an important role. Just as it does today. Listen to what the Bible says about marriage.

Gen 2:18-25

And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.

And out of the ground Jehovah God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the heavens; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them: and whatsoever the man called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a help meet for him.

And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof:

and the rib, which Jehovah God had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Jer 33:1-14

Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the guard, saying,

Thus saith Jehovah that doeth it, Jehovah that formeth it to establish it; Jehovah is his name:

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and will show thee great things, and difficult, which thou knowest not.

For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down against the mounds and against the sword;

while come to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my wrath, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city:

Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal unto them abundance of peace and truth.

And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned against me, and whereby they have transgressed against me.

And shall be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure unto it.

Thus saith Jehovah: Yet again there shall be heard in this place, whereof ye say, It is waste, without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast,

the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that say, Give thanks to Jehovah of hosts, for Jehovah is good, for his lovingkindness for ever; that bring thanksgiving into the house of Jehovah. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return as at the first, saith Jehovah.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Yet again shall there be in this place, which is waste, without man and without beast, and in all the cities thereof, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.

In the cities of the hill-country, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks again pass under the hands of him that numbereth them, saith Jehovah.

Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.

Ps 45:1-17

My heart overfloweth with a goodly matter; I speak the things which I have made touching the king: My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

Thou art fairer than the children of men; Grace is poured into thy lips: Therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O mighty one, Thy glory and thy majesty.

And in thy majesty ride on prosperously, Because of truth and meekness righteousness: And thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

Thine arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under thee; in the heart of the king's enemies.

Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: A sceptre of equity is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness: Therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee With the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

All thy garments myrrh, and aloes, cassia; Out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made thee glad.

Kings' daughters are among thy honorable women: At thy right hand doth stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; Forget also thine own people, and thy father's house:

So will the king desire thy beauty; For he is thy lord; And reverence thou him.

And the daughter of Tyre with a gift; The rich among the people shall entreat thy favor.

The king's daughter within is all glorious: Her clothing is inwrought with gold.

She shall be led unto the king in broidered work: The virgins her companions that follow her Shall be brought unto thee.

With gladness and rejoicing shall they be led: They shall enter into the king's palace.

Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, Whom thou shalt make princes in all the earth.

I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: Therefore shall the peoples give thee thanks for ever and ever.

1Co 7:1-40

Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

But, because of fornications, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

Let the husband render unto the wife her due: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

The wife hath not power over her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power over his own body, but the wife.

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that ye may give yourselves unto prayer, and may be together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency.

But this I say by way of concession, not of commandment.

Yet I would that all men were even as I myself. Howbeit each man hath his own gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that.

But I say to the unmarried and to widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

But if they have not continency, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

But unto the married I give charge, not I, but the Lord, That the wife depart not from her husband

(but should she depart, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband); and that the husband leave not his wife.

But to the rest say I, not the Lord: If any brother hath an unbelieving wife, and she is content to dwell with him, let him not leave her.

And the woman that hath an unbelieving husband, and he is content to dwell with her, let her not leave her husband.

For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the brother: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

Yet if the unbelieving departeth, let him depart: the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such : but God hath called us in peace.

For how knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? Or how knowest thou, O husband, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

Only, as the Lord hath distributed to each man, as God hath called each, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all the churches.

Was any man called being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Hath any been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.

Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing; but the keeping of the commandments of God.

Let each man abide in that calling wherein he was called.

Wast thou called being a bondservant? Care not for it: nay, even if thou canst become free, use rather.

For he that was called in the Lord being a bondservant, is the Lord's freedman: likewise he that was called being free, is Christ's bondservant.

Ye were bought with a price; become not bondservants of men.

Brethren, let each man, wherein he was called, therein abide with God.

Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: but I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be trustworthy.

I think therefore that this is good by reason of the distress that is upon us, that it is good for a man to be as he is.

Art thou bound unto a wife? Seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? Seek not a wife.

But shouldest thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Yet such shall have tribulation in the flesh: and I would spare you.

But this I say, brethren, the time is shortened, that henceforth both those that have wives may be as though they had none;

and those that weep, as though they wept not; and those that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and those that buy, as though they possessed not;

and those that use the world, as not using it to the full: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

But I would have you to be free from cares. He that is unmarried is careful for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

but he that is married is careful for the things of the world, how he may please his wife,

and is divided. also the woman that is unmarried and the virgin is careful for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married is careful for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

And this I say for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is seemly, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

But if any man thinketh that he behaveth himself unseemly toward his virgin , if she be past the flower of her age, and if need so requireth, let him do what he will; he sinneth not; let them marry.

But he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power as touching in his own heart, to keep his own virgin , shall do well.

So then both he that giveth his own virgin in marriage doeth well; and he that giveth her not in marriage shall do better.

A wife is bound for so long time as her husband liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is free to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

But she is happier if she abide as she is, after my judgment: and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.

Jdg 14:1-9

And Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.

And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.

Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.

But his father and his mother knew not that it was of Jehovah; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel.

Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnah, and came to the vineyards of Timnah: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.

And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid; and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.

And he went down, and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.

And after a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.

And he took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother, and gave unto them, and they did eat: but he told them not that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion.

Heb 13:1-25

Let love of the brethren continue.

Forget not to show love unto strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; them that are illtreated, as being yourselves also in the body.

marriage had in honor among all, and the bed undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.

So that with good courage we say, The Lord is my helper; I will not fear: What shall man do unto me?

Remember them that had the rule over you, men that spake unto you the word of God; and considering the issue of their life, imitate their faith.

Jesus Christ the same yesterday and to-day, and for ever.

Be not carried away by divers and strange teachings: for it is good that the heart be established by grace; not by meats, wherein they that occupied themselves were not profited.

We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat that serve the tabernacle.

For the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.

Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people through his own blood, suffered without the gate.

Let us therefore go forth unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

For we have not here an abiding city, but we seek after which is to come.

Through him then let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of lips which make confession to his name.

But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit : for they watch in behalf of your souls, as they that shall give account; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief: for this unprofitable for you.

Pray for us: for we are persuaded that we have a good conscience, desiring to live honorably in all things.

And I exhort the more exceedingly to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

Now the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, our Lord Jesus,

make you perfect in every good thing to do his will, working in us that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

But I exhort you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written unto you in few words.

Know ye that our brother Timothy hath been set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.

Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.

Grace be with you all. Amen.

Rom 7:1-25

Or are ye ignorant, brethren (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law hath dominion over a man for so long time as he liveth?

For the woman that hath a husband is bound by law to the husband while he liveth; but if the husband die, she is discharged from the law of the husband.

So then if, while the husband liveth, she be joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if the husband die, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.

Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ; that ye should be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit unto God.

For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were through the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that wherein we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:

but sin, finding occasion, wrought in me through the commandment all manner of coveting: for apart from the law sin dead.

And I was alive apart from the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died;

and the commandment, which unto life, this I found unto death:

for sin, finding occasion, through the commandment beguiled me, and through it slew me.

So that the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.

Did then that which is good become death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; --that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do.

But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good.

So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.

For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good not.

For the good which I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I practise.

But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.

I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present.

For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.

Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death?

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then I of myself with the mind, indeed, serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
