Ps 40:1-17

I waited patiently for Jehovah; And he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay; And he set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: Many shall see it, and fear, And shall trust in Jehovah.

Blessed is the man that maketh Jehovah his trust, And respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Many, O Jehovah my God, are the wonderful works which thou hast done, And thy thoughts which are to us-ward; They cannot be set in order unto thee; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.

Sacrifice and offering thou hast no delight in; Mine ears hast thou opened: Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required.

Then said I, Lo, I am come; In the roll of the book it is written of me:

I delight to do thy will, O my God; Yea, thy law is within my heart.

I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly; Lo, I will not refrain my lips, O Jehovah, thou knowest.

I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great assembly.

Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Jehovah; Let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

For innumerable evils have compassed me about; Mine iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; They are more than the hairs of my head; And my heart hath failed me.

Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me: Make haste to help me, O Jehovah.

Let them be put to shame and confounded together That seek after my soul to destroy it: Let them be turned backward and brought to dishonor That delight in my hurt.

Let them be desolate by reason of their shame That say unto me, Aha, aha.

Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: Let such as love thy salvation say continually, Jehovah be magnified.

But I am poor and needy; the Lord thinketh upon me: Thou art my help and my deliverer; Make no tarrying, O my God.

Ps 116:1-19

I love Jehovah, because he heareth My voice and my supplications.

Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, Therefore will I call as long as I live.

The cords of death compassed me, And the pains of Sheol gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

Then called I upon the name of Jehovah: O Jehovah, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

Gracious is Jehovah, and righteous; Yea, our God is merciful.

Jehovah preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he saved me.

Return unto thy rest, O my soul; For Jehovah hath dealt bountifully with thee.

For thou hast delivered my soul from death, Mine eyes from tears, my feet from falling.

I will walk before Jehovah In the land of the living.

I believe, for I will speak: I was greatly afflicted:

I said in my haste, All men are liars.

What shall I render unto Jehovah For all his benefits toward me?

I will take the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of Jehovah.

I will pay my vows unto Jehovah, Yea, in the presence of all his people.

Precious in the sight of Jehovah Is the death of his saints.

O Jehovah, truly I am thy servant: I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid; Thou hast loosed my bonds.

I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of Jehovah.

I will pay my vows unto Jehovah, Yea, in the presence of all his people,

In the courts of Jehovah's house, In the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye Jehovah.

Prov 23:1-35

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, Consider diligently him that is before thee;

And put a knife to thy throat, If thou be a man given to appetite.

Be not desirous of his dainties; Seeing they are deceitful food.

Weary not thyself to be rich; Cease from thine own wisdom.

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.

Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, Neither desire thou his dainties:

For as he thinketh within himself, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee.

The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, And lose thy sweet words.

Speak not in the hearing of a fool; For he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Remove not the ancient landmark; And enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause against thee.

Apply thy heart unto instruction, And thine ears to the words of knowledge.

Withhold not correction from the child; if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.

Thou shalt beat him with the rod, And shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.

My son, if thy heart be wise, My heart will be glad, even mine:

Yea, my heart will rejoice, When thy lips speak right things.

Let not thy heart envy sinners; But in the fear of Jehovah all the day long:

For surely there is a reward; And thy hope shall not be cut off.

Hear thou, my son, and be wise, And guide thy heart in the way.

Be not among winebibbers, Among gluttonous eaters of flesh:

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; And drowsiness will clothe with rags.

Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she is old.

Buy the truth, and sell it not; , wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; And he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.

Let thy father and thy mother be glad, And let her that bare thee rejoice.

My son, give me thy heart; And let thine eyes delight in my ways.

For a harlot is a deep ditch; And a foreign woman is a narrow pit.

Yea, she lieth in wait as a robber, And increaseth the treacherous among men.

Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? Who hath complaining? who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?

They that tarry long at the wine; They that go to seek out mixed wine.

Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, When it sparkleth in the cup, When it goeth down smoothly:

At the last it biteth like a serpent, And stingeth like an adder.

Thine eyes shall behold strange things, And thy heart shall utter perverse things.

Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, Or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

They have stricken me, , and I was not hurt; They have beaten me, and I felt it not: When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Lk 15:11-32

And he said, A certain man had two sons:

and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country; and there he wasted his substance with riotous living.

And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want.

And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger!

I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight:

I am no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: I am no more worthy to be called thy son.

But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

and bring the fatted calf, kill it, and let us eat, and make merry:

for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing.

And he called to him one of the servants, and inquired what these things might be.

And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

But he was angry, and would not go in: and his father came out, and entreated him.

But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf.

And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine.

But it was meet to make merry and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive ; and lost, and is found.

Rom 7:1-25

Or are ye ignorant, brethren (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law hath dominion over a man for so long time as he liveth?

For the woman that hath a husband is bound by law to the husband while he liveth; but if the husband die, she is discharged from the law of the husband.

So then if, while the husband liveth, she be joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if the husband die, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.

Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ; that ye should be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit unto God.

For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were through the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that wherein we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:

but sin, finding occasion, wrought in me through the commandment all manner of coveting: for apart from the law sin dead.

And I was alive apart from the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died;

and the commandment, which unto life, this I found unto death:

for sin, finding occasion, through the commandment beguiled me, and through it slew me.

So that the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.

Did then that which is good become death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; --that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do.

But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good.

So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.

For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good not.

For the good which I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I practise.

But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.

I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present.

For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.

Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death?

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then I of myself with the mind, indeed, serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Eph 4:1-32

I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you to walk worthily of the calling wherewith ye were called,

with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

giving diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

one body, and one Spirit, even as also ye were called in one hope of your calling;

one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all.

But unto each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Wherefore he saith, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, And gave gifts unto men.

(Now this, He ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?

He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)

And he gave some apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:

till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

that we may be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;

but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ;

from whom all the body fitly framed and knit together through that which every joint supplieth, according to the working in measure of each several part, maketh the increase of the body unto the building up of itself in love.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,

being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart;

who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

But ye did not so learn Christ;

if so be that ye heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:

that ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man, that waxeth corrupt after the lusts of deceit;

and that ye be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.

Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

neither give place to the devil.

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have whereof to give to him that hath need.

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.

And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed unto the day of redemption.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and railing, be put away from you, with all malice:

and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, even as God also in Christ forgave you.

Heb 12:1-29

Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider him that hath endured such gainsaying of sinners against himself, that ye wax not weary, fainting in your souls.

Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin:

and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him;

For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom father chasteneth not?

But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

For they indeed for a few days chastened as seemed good to them; but he for profit, that may be partakers of his holiness.

All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, of righteousness.

Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down, and the palsied knees;

and make straight paths for your feet, that that which is lame be not turned out of the way, but rather be healed.

Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man shall see the Lord:

looking carefully lest any man that falleth short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble , and thereby the many be defiled;

lest any fornication, or profane person, as Esau, who for one mess of meat sold his own birthright.

For ye know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected; for he found no place for a change of mind though he sought it diligently with tears.

For ye are not come unto that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which they that heard entreated that no word more should be spoken unto them;

for they could not endure that which was enjoined, If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned;

and so fearful was the appearance, Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:

but ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable hosts of angels,

to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

and to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaketh better than Abel.

See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned on earth, much more we who turn away from him that from heaven:

whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven.

And this , Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.

Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe:

for our God is a consuming fire.
